Books for Dummies

Books for Dummies

I was quite impressed with a bookstore I was looking through the other day. Among other things they even have a section for ‘dummies’. Included in this section were books on cooking for dummies, computers for dummies, investing for dummies. There must be dummies in all walks of life. They even have astrology for dummies, advanced mathematics for dummies and gardening for dummies. The only book missing was open-heart surgery for dummies.

There must be dummies all over, otherwise why would they have their own books? I have also noticed that they must be a secret society because no one wants to admit that they are the dummies reading these books! Go ahead and test me on this… next time you are sitting beside someone ask them if they are a dummy… I bet they said no. I bet if it was your spouse they hit you… The big question is… why would they create something so simple and yet no one wants to admit they need it?

I think sometimes that’s how our world sees the Bible! It was created for us, with a simple message, but no one wants to believe it. We are drawn to it… after all it has been the bestselling book of all time, so someone out there is buying it… but they are in love with the book, not who it points to. Jesus said to the Pharisees in John 5: 39 “You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life.”

What Jesus is saying is… anyone who follows the book and not the person is missing the mark. Jesus makes this plain and simple. He writes to people from all walks of life. He writes at any level for all people so anyone can understand… yes that even means… all those anonymous dummies out there…
