Who Do You Look Like?

People are sometimes compared to animals. That can be good and that can be bad.
If a person can see great distances we say, ‘he has eyes like a hawk’… If a person is fearless then we say, ‘she has the heart of a lion’.
A person can be ‘graceful as a gazelle’ or ‘strong as a bear’. Sometimes our human comparison to animals isn’t all that flattering!
‘He has ears like a monkey’ or ‘she has legs like a giraffe’. These are animals you don’t want to be compared to.

I think all humans at one point in their life have been called a ‘turkey’… this is not very complimentary… I have heard people talk about their work environment by saying ‘how am I supposed to soar like an eagle (this would be good) when I am working with a bunch of turkeys?’ (this would be bad)”…

It is interesting to note that God himself was compared to animals as well… ‘the Lion of the tribe of Judah’
or in the case of the Holy Spirit, ‘A dove descending’ or in the case of Jesus… the familiar… ‘Jesus the lamb of God’.
God is even compared to his creation, … all creation is special to him… and he cares about all he has created,
even the animals that we compare ourselves to that don’t appear very complimentary. The monkeys, the giraffes and yes, even all of us turkeys.

Luke 12:6-7 says, “Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.”

That’s a very comforting verse… God sees all… All are important to him… Not only is his eye on the sparrow… but it’s on the turkey too!...
