First Things First
There is nothing more annoying than trying to spread hard butter on soft bread… putting the butter in the fridge instead of the cupboard is apparently what creates this problem. If I try to spread the hard butter on the bread, it usually rips the bread to shreds resulting in a 3” hole in the middle of the bread. One way around this is to place a chunk of the hard butter in your mouth, add a piece of bread, then add some meat, swish that all together then swallow… let’s face it, your stomach really doesn’t care if everything comes down together in an organized fashion. You could microwave the butter to soften it… but that takes too much time… and I have a habit of over microwaving it which turns the butter into a liquid. Once butter becomes a liquid you cannot place the butter back in the cupboard because it apparently will not harden…so you must place it back in the fridge. I find this very confusing because now, when I unpack the groceries, I can’t remember if the butter is originally supposed to be in the cupboard or the fridge,… the fridge usually wins and the whole cycle repeats itself. There must be an easier way to determine what comes first? The cupboard or the fridge.
In Matthew chapter 6 Jesus explains to us that there are a lot of things in life that we face that are not the first things we need to remember or worry about. We are not to worry about what to eat or wear or even about our lives. He says “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Don’t worry about all the pressures of life, or how you will live… forget about where the butter is supposed to go! That’s not first! The first thing is to seek Jesus and grow in his love… This butter thing seems to have all worked out in my life. Donna is now in charge of the butter. I take care of the mayonnaise. To me that’s a lot easier… I just open the cupboard… and there it is! …..Pastor Mike
