Have you ever wondered why hotdog buns come in packages of 8 but hotdog wieners come in packs of 10? These kinds of things bother me! Aren’t they supposed to go together? What was Oscar Meyer thinking or shouldn’t the President of Wonder Bread resign! Loblaws has been recently caught for overcharging for their bread, perhaps a more profitable solution might have been to reduce their packs of hotdog wieners by 2!
These companies should produce products that are equally numbered, so they balance out. I mean everything starts out OK, but later on when you’re ready for the 9th wiener…. there’s no bun! Who wants to eat a wiener without a bun? And then it all goes downhill from there.
If you think about it, life can be the same way. You start out OK in life, baby… teenager… young adult, nothing complicated… a hotdog for every bun. But you find that as life goes on you’re looking for that 9th bun and it’s not there. You’re out of balance. It shows up in trying to balance work vs. pleasure, savings vs. spending, time spent with family vs. time spent in ministry… you have too many hotdogs left and no buns.
In Matthew 22 the Bible says, “As the Pharisees were regrouping, Jesus caught them off balance with his own test question: “What do you think about the Christ?” How would you answer that question? What do you think about Christ? If he is Lord of all in your life, then he is the center of your work and pleasure, and that includes saving and spending, time spent with family and time spent in ministry. If Christ is the center of your life than you are balanced!
And here is more really good news. If you're out of balance you can recommit to him now or anytime. Let me ask you, are you feeling a little short of buns these days? Refocus, recommit, rejoice, and relax! In the game of life, with Christ as the center, you can start well and end well too…..Pastor Mike
